This environment piece was done in 8 weeks for my school's modular environment project. The main goal of the project was to create a set of modular pieces to create multiple distinct structures. Beyond that, we were free to do whatever we wanted. I chose a lake nestled in forest-covered mountains with islands and ruins floating above. This was my first time using Unreal as an engine, but I had a ton of fun learning it! The material system is really powerful and I put a solid amount of time into it. The landscape auto material is a great example of that. I shouldn't have had such an ambitious scale, but I wanted to challenge myself and see what populating such an enormous scene would be like. I modeled all of my assets in Maya and Zbrush. The landscape was created in World Machine. I used Substance, Quixel, and Photoshop for texturing.
